The Carolina Hurricanes are dealing with a significant early offseason setback after star winger Seth Jarvis underwent shoulder surgery, with the team confirming he is expected to miss the start of the 2026-27 NHL season.
General manager Eric Tulsky announced that Jarvis is facing a recovery timeline of approximately four to six months following a procedure to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff. The injury is the same shoulder that has bothered the 24-year-old forward for multiple seasons.
“He had surgery, and the timeline we’ve been given is roughly four to six months,” Tulsky said. “Hopefully it’s on the shorter end, but that’s where we are right now.”
Jarvis played through the injury during Carolina’s Stanley Cup-winning 2025-26 season, continuing to be one of the team’s most consistent offensive threats despite discomfort at times.
Before the injury, Jarvis was in the middle of another strong year, continuing his rise as one of Carolina’s most important young forwards. He has developed into a consistent top-six winger, known for his speed, playmaking, and scoring ability.
“It was something I had to manage for a while,” Jarvis said previously about the injury. “At some point, you just try to push through it and help the team win. That’s always the goal."
Despite the setback, the Hurricanes remain optimistic about his long-term outlook. The organization expects him to return fully healthy once recovered, with no indication that the injury will impact his role moving forward.
For Jarvis, the focus now shifts to recovery and ensuring the shoulder does not become a recurring issue heading into the prime years of his career.
