Maple Leafs Assign Young Goalie Back to the AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs got great news today on the goalie front with Joseph Woll coming back into the Leafs lineup today against the Blackhawks. With Woll coming off IR, the Maple Leafs have sent down goalie Artur Akhtyamov back to the minors.

Joseph Woll back in the lineup

Joseph Woll is the confirmed starter for Tuesday's game from Craig Berube. This season, Artur Akhtyamov has a 7-5-0 record with the Marlies this season, posting a .896 save percentage with a 3.04 goals against average. Akhtyamov appeared in one game with the Leafs this season, and it was in relief for Dennis Hildeby on Saturday.

With the Maple Leafs getting Woll back, he is still back in the rotation with Hildeby. They are a tandem that has worked out well for the Leafs and will look to continue moving that way. The Maple Leafs should also gain confidence in gaining Woll back, and it should bring new energy to the locker room.

For the Toronto Marlies, they will get some much-needed goalie help. Over the course of the past few weeks, they have lost both their starter and backup goalie due to Woll and Stolarz both being out. The Marlies currently sit with a 12-12-1 record, having gone 5-5-0 in their last ten.
